A short primer
What is Saju?
Saju is a Korean tradition of reading a life from the exact moment it began. It doesn't predict fixed events — it maps the energies you were born into, so you can work with them on purpose.
The Four Pillars
Your birth year, month, day, and hour each become a "pillar." Together they are the Four Pillars of Destiny — eight characters that describe your temperament, your relationships, and the timing of your life.
No birth time? You still get the year, month, and day pillars — only the later-life picture needs the hour.
Stems and branches
Each pillar is one Heavenly Stem over one Earthly Branch. There are 10 stems, each carrying an element and a yin/yang. There are 12 branches — the familiar zodiac animals (Rat, Ox, Tiger…), each also carrying an element.
So a pillar like "Eul Snake" means Yin Wood resting on the Snake.
The Five Elements
Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water flow through the chart in a cycle — each one feeding the next and checking another. The balance between them (which is strong, which is missing) is the heart of a reading.
Your Day Master
The stem of your day pillar is your Day Master — the "you" the rest of the chart revolves around. Every other pillar is read as a relationship to it: what supports you, what drains you, what you produce, what you control.
Luck cycles
On top of the birth chart, life moves through 10-year eras called luck cycles. Each era has its own flavour — a building decade, a gathering decade, a creative decade — and a reading traces how yours unfold.
Special stars
Beyond the pillars, a chart can carry a few named "stars" — recurring patterns with their own flavour. A reading only calls one out when the chart clearly warrants it.
- dohwasal — the Peach Blossom star: charm, magnetism, and drawing attention.
- yeokmasal — the Travel Horse star: a pull toward movement, travel, and frequent change.
- hwagaesal — the Solitary Canopy star: a leaning toward art, study, spirituality, and time alone.
